Compression Only CPR.

COMPRESSION ONLY CPR – Quote from the Resuscitation Council (UK) 2010 to 2015 guidelines:
“teach CPR to laypeople with an emphasis on chest compressions but include ventilation as the standard, particularly for those with a duty of care” page 9. Compression only CPR is “not recommended as the standard management of out of hospital cardiac arrest” page 16. “Those laypeople with a duty of care such as fist aid workers, lifeguards and child minders should be taught chest compression and ventilation” page 24.

It’s a given fact that the human body requires oxygen to survive. Studies show that oxygen depletion occurs within minutes (2 – 4) once the body stops breathing. If people are unwilling to give breath then compressions are better than nothing in the first 4 minutes BUT ‘gold standard’ is oxygen (preferably from an oxygen bottle plus compressions. If you were the casualty would you prefer compression only or compressions with oxygen and defib. All 3 give the far better survival.
